Venice, September 2007 -- “Roma Style” is
the title of the fashion show presented in Venice-Mestre on 16 September.
Advertised as “the First Roma Collection Prêt-a-Porter, autumn-winter 2007”,
the show attracted several hundred citizens, including whole families, who came
in the late afternoon hours to the central Piazza Ferretto.
The fashion show,
envisioned as a social event rather then a fashion gathering, was organized by the First Roma Pavilion and the Cultural Councilor
of the City of Venice as
a part of the festival of Roma Culture Cultural
Cont@mination 2007. The festival, which lasts until November this
year, will feature
concerts, fashion shows, literary events and literary discussions.
The show consisted of
three parts, showing Traditional Roma costumes accompanied by traditional Roma
music; Roma clothing between traditional and modern accompanied by
international Gypsy music; and modern clothes inspired by Roma culture, accompanied by Roma
swing-jazz.
This unique fashion experience was
conceptualized and designed by Georgel Radulescu from Romania. Live music was performed by Ionut
Polizu (violin) and
Alian Georgescu (electric piano), also from Romania.
