“Culture needs open space and a partner to create it”
Sharpening an awareness of the vast potential that resides within the youth and culture of Europe has been the leitmotiv of the Allianz Cultural Foundation since it was established in 2000. With this in mind it supports artistic and educational projects that breathe the spirit of European integration. Young people from all over Europe are its target group and, at the same time, the protagonists of its programs. Together with them the Allianz Cultural Foundation develops projects that permanently promote mutual understanding and awareness.
In line with its goal of building cultural bridges for young people in Europe the Cultural Foundation’s terms of reference are to promote and at the same time proactively initiate. Hence, on the one hand it responds to stimuli and project proposals that come from outside as applications for support and are in keeping with the Foundation’s objectives. On the other hand it generates stimuli on its own initiative and proposes projects that can be further developed and realized in collaboration with outside institutions and organizations.
Over and above this another of its key objectives is to build up an alumni network of its own and thereby make a creative and enduring contribution toward the furtherance of cross-border cultural processes in Europe. This network of former associates, in a manner of speaking the Foundation’s "Invisible College", also advises us on the development of new projects. In this way our alumni, experts in interdisciplinary thinking and intermediaries in matters of European civilization, help to guarantee the quality and success of the Foundation’s program.
Guidelines and funding criteria
Primarily the Allianz Cultural Foundation seeks to address young and particularly talented people from all areas of art and education who the Foundation expects will be actively helping to shape the 21st century. The field of action is Europe in the broadest sense. We primarily support multinational and intercultural cooperative projects that effectively and enduringly promote the process of European integration.
Our partnership focuses on cross-disciplinary and multi-media contemporary concepts and initiatives. We pay particular attention to the support of projects that are innovative in terms of content or methodology and that deliberately embrace new approaches in art, culture and education at the moment in which these come into being. Moreover, the funded projects should be capable of achieving long-term impacts on the European general public and triggering follow-up projects.
As a rule the Foundation program excludes:
In any case project funding is subject to a strict time limit. The project applications for the upcoming year have to be received by May 1st of the current year at the latest.
